The Vampire A member of a secret organization finds himself bound by an oath to kill his second wife aided by drugs and a vampire bat. Les Vampires A 10-part series completed in 1915-1916 and released in the United States in 1916 as The Vampires. A Village Vampire No known copies have survived. Records of the film were found in Edison's catalog. 1920 - 1929 Dracula The first film based on Bram Stoker's Dracula. No known copy has survived. Drakula The second film based on Bram Stoker's Dracula. Like the first, no known copies have survived. The Great London Mystery A 12-part serial. London After Midnight The first full-length vampire feature movie based on a short story. "The Hypnotist" by director Tod Browning. NO known copy has survived. Nosferatu, Eine Symphonie des Garuens The third attempt to bring Dracula to the screen. This now famous movie of the Bram Stoker's novel was banned for many years due to a lawsuit brought by Florence Stoker, the widow of Bram Stoker on copyright grounds, and only a few copies survived. It was the first released in the 1960s as Dracula and as Terror of Dracula and later in 1972 as Nosferati the Vampire. A remake of this version was released in 1979 under the title Nosferatu the Vampire. The Unholy Love The third film based on Alraune by Hans Heinz Ewers. The Vampires of Warsaw No known copy has survived. 1930 - 1939 Alraune A fourth film based on Alraune by Hans Heinz Ewers. It was also released as Daughter of Evil Condemned to Live Prof. Paul Kristan is "condemned to live" after being turned into a vampire by the full moon. He then unwillingly begins attacking the residents of a small European village. Dakki, the Vampire 1936 B JP Dracula The fourth attempt to make a Dracula film and the first sound version, based on the very successful Broadway play, introduced the vampire to popular consciousness and Bela Lugosi a motion picture star. Dracula This spanish-language version of Dracula was filmed simultaneously with the Bela Lugosi/Tod Browning version and followed the same script. Dracula's Daughter This sequel to Dracula and first feature film centered on a female vampire was loosely based on Bram Stroker's short story, "Dracula's Guest." In 1977 Carl Dreadstone finished a novel, Dracula's Daughter, inspired by the movie. Hollywood on Parade, No. 8 A 10-minute short feature. Jaws of the Jungle A group of vampire bats attack a Sri Lankan village. The Macabre Trunk Dr. del Vialle kills young women but with a high purpose in mind. He uses their blood to keep his wife alive. Also released asEl Baul Macabro. Mark of the Vampire In 1935 Browning completed a sound remake of his original London After Midnight. It was also released as Werewolf of Paris and The Vampire of Prague. A murder mystery whose action is placed on the set of a vampire movie. Humphrey Bogart's only appearance in a vampire movie. Based on a short story, "The Doctor's Secret" be Lee Katz. Marshal Quesne, the Bogart character, is turned into a vampire by blood transfusions. Claimed to be loosely based on Sheridan Le Fanu's "Carmilla," the story pits a young man, David Gray against Margueritte Chopin, an elderly female vampire. This famous critically acclaimed silent film was released under a variety of titles including The Strange Adventure of David Gray. Univeral teams its best comedians against its famous monsters in a plot that has Dracula attempting to steal Costello's brain and placing it in Frankenstein's monster It was also released as Meet the Ghosts; Abbott and Costelle Meet the Ghosts; Abbott et Costello contre Frankenstein (French); Duex Nigauds contre Frankenstein (French); Abbott et Costelle et les Monstres (Belgium). Dr. Ordway, criminal psychologist, investigates a dance team that is suspected of being vampires. In the end, the idea of the vampire is explained away. Zucco portrays a vampire with a non-vampire twin brother. This film was also released as: Creatures of the Devil. Mad scientist Lugosi creates two giant vampire bats, which he wants to release on those he believes have done him wrong. This movie was also released as: Killer Bats and as Devil Bats. This sequel to The Devil Bat (1940) has the daughter of the scientist driven mad by her psychiatrist. The mad professor Randolf (John Carradine) is able to revive a dead canine who had several supernatural powers (such as being invisible) and attacked people and drank their blood. An animated film. When a scientists attempts to turn the Universal monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, and the Wolfman) into normal people, Dracula rejects the offer and turns the scientist into a vampire. House of Dracula, a sequel to House of Frankenstein, was released in Italy as La Casa Degli Orrori ("The House of Horror"). The original gathering of Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, and the Wolfman with Karloff as a mad scientist. House of Frankenstein marked John Carradine's first appearance as Dracula. A condensed version of this film was released as Doom of Dracula. Karloff plays a military commander in a rural Balkan village who believes that a vampire (vrykolakas) is killing off the residents. Lugosi plays a different vampire (Universal owning the film rights to Dracula) who was freed from his staked out condition in England during World War II.
